SHADOW acquires Genymobile and its “Android as a Service” solution Genymotion

With this acquisition, SHADOW completes its portfolio with Android-based cloud services and strengthens its expertise in virtualization

Paris, France - January 19th, 2023. SHADOW announced today the acquisition of Genymobile, a pioneer and expert in Android streaming based in France and the USA. Genymobile, founded by Arnaud Dupuis in 2011, was initially providing a desktop Android emulator that quickly became developers' first choice, before evolving into a full-fledged “Android as a Service” platform with unique expertise.

Genymobile’s main product Genymotion is widely used by hundreds of thousands of developers of Android applications as a tool for testing, Quality Assurance, as well as in many other use cases. Genymobile also has a strong commitment to Open Source with some of the most widely used software in the Android ecosystem like scrcpy (display and control an Android device) and gnirehtet (reverse tethering for Android).

Genymobile’s unique know-how on the Android platform and deep expertise on virtualization will allow SHADOW to accelerate its roadmap and increase its industrial competitiveness in order to become the leading cloud-based collaborative platform for businesses, gamers, and creatives. Arnaud Dupuis, Founder and CEO of Genymobile*, Eric Sèle, Chairman of Genymobile and CEO of SHADOW, and Octave Klaba, Chairman of SHADOW, have a shared vision of a future sovereign cloud-computing environment for consumers and professionals.

We are very happy to announce this acquisition as the relationship built this past year with Genymobile has been pivotal to our progress in the development of the next-coming generation of our service. This acquisition will bring additional expertise to SHADOW, and also showcases our ambition as a company, which will go through both internal and external growth” declares Eric Sèle, CEO of SHADOW and Chairman of Genymobile. “I would also like to thank Tim Danford, Genymobile former CEO, for his help in landing this deal. Tim will stay as an advisor for both entities.

Genymobile and SHADOW have complementary expertise that led both companies to work together, and this alliance felt natural. We are very happy to join SHADOW in their mission to democratize technology from the cloud, helping with our unique Android know-how”, said Arnaud Dupuis, CEO of Genymobile.

*Arnaud Dupuis will be CEO of Genymobile starting March 1st. Until then, Timothy Danford, current CEO of Genymobile, will remain in position.
