The short answer. Three kinds of service come up when you look for a Shadow PC alternative, and they do not do the same job.
Hourly cloud PCs, such as AirGPU or Vagon, rent you a full computer by the hour. Game streaming services, such as GeForce Now, Boosteroid, Xbox Cloud Gaming or PlayStation Plus Premium, stream the games on their list, not a desktop. Remote access tools, such as Parsec, Moonlight or Steam Remote Play, stream a PC you already own.
Shadow PC is a complete Windows PC in the cloud, on a monthly subscription. The right alternative depends on what you want to keep: a full PC, a low price, or the hardware you already have.

Hourly cloud PCs: a full PC, on the meter
This is the closest family to Shadow PC. You get a real Windows desktop with a GPU, and you pay for the time it is switched on.
AirGPU starts at $0.65 an hour, plus $3.50 a month per 50 GB of storage. Vagon charges a $7.99 monthly plan plus $0.99 an hour on its entry machine. Paperspace, now part of DigitalOcean, rents desktops by the hour as well.
The math is simple. A few hours a month, and hourly billing wins. Play most evenings, and the meter adds up, along with the minutes spent waiting for the machine to boot.
Shadow PC is billed by the month, with 210 hours of play included on the Shadow PC range.

Game streaming services: a list, not a desktop
GeForce Now, Boosteroid, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation Plus Premium and Amazon Luna stream games from a supported list. You click a game, it starts, and there is nothing to install. That is their strength.
The limit is the same everywhere: a game, a mod or an app that is not on the list does not start. GeForce Now's paid plans include 100 hours a month. Xbox Cloud Gaming moves to 5, 10 or 15 hours a month, depending on the Game Pass plan, from November 2026. Boosteroid sets no hour limit and starts at €7.49 a month on a yearly plan.
If every game you play is on one of these lists, they are cheaper than a full PC.

Remote access: free, if you own the PC
Parsec, Moonlight with Sunshine, and Steam Remote Play all stream a computer you already have. Parsec is free for personal use, Moonlight is free and open source, and Steam Remote Play comes with Steam.
What they need is the hardware. The host is your own gaming PC, switched on at home, with its own graphics card, its upgrades and its power bill. Parsec has no app for iPhone or iPad.
If you already own a strong PC and only want to play it from another room or another city, start here. It costs nothing.

Free alternatives: what is free, and on what condition
There is no free cloud PC. A Windows machine with a dedicated GPU in a data center costs money to run, so every free offer comes with a condition.
GeForce Now has a free tier: it streams games from its list, with queues and shorter sessions, and no desktop. Parsec and Moonlight are free, as long as you provide the PC. Vagon has a $0.99 trial, and Game Pass sometimes offers a first month for $1.
If you want a free Shadow PC alternative, the honest answer is one of these, and the trade-off is either the game list or the hardware.

When Shadow PC is the right pick
Shadow PC fits when you want the whole PC and you play often. It is a complete Windows PC with a dedicated NVIDIA RTX GPU, billed by the month with no commitment, and it keeps everything you install: launchers, games, mods, saves.
It does not need a computer at home. You open it from a laptop, a Mac, an iPhone, an iPad, an Android TV or Apple TV box, or a browser tab.
And it is not limited to a list. Our players launch games from every store, and this summer the one they played most, in hours, was not even a game: it was a GTA V mod.

Questions about Shadow PC alternatives
It depends on what you want to keep. For the lowest price and no installation, a game streaming service such as GeForce Now or Boosteroid, as long as your games are on its list. For a full PC you use a few hours a month, an hourly cloud PC such as AirGPU or Vagon. If you already own a gaming PC, remote access with Parsec or Moonlight, which is free.
Not as a full cloud PC: none is free, because a Windows machine with a dedicated GPU costs money to run. What is free comes with a condition. GeForce Now's free tier streams games from its list, with queues and shorter sessions. Parsec and Moonlight are free, but stream a PC you already own.
Partly. GeForce Now streams the games on its supported list, more than 4,500 according to NVIDIA, from your Steam, Epic Games or Ubisoft libraries. It does not give you a Windows desktop, so you cannot install a launcher, a mod or an app it does not support. Shadow PC is a complete Windows PC where you install what you want.
Only if you already own a gaming PC. Parsec is remote desktop software: it streams a host computer that you provide and keep switched on, a Windows PC or a Mac. Shadow PC is the computer itself, in the cloud, so you do not need any hardware at home beyond a screen and a connection.
For light use, yes. AirGPU starts at $0.65 an hour and Vagon at $0.99 an hour on top of a $7.99 monthly plan, with storage billed separately on AirGPU. If you play most evenings, a monthly plan usually costs less over the month, and your Shadow PC is ready without waiting for a machine to start.
A full cloud PC, either Shadow PC or an hourly one, runs what a Windows PC runs: any launcher, any game you own, mods and apps. Game streaming services only run the games on their list. On Shadow PC, about thirty games with a strict anti-cheat do not run; the list is on Shadow's help center.
