Founded three years ago, Komet’s mission is to apply video game technologies to other industries, particularly in terms of experience and visuals. Whether in cinema, music with the production of music videos for artists such as Vald, or in the industrial sphere with the visualization for the SNCF’s technical center that will house the new RER NG.
The challenges of a dispersed team
Ambitions come with challenges: “Our team works mostly remotely, spread across France. Only 30% of our employees work on-site in Bordeaux.” says Antoine Phillippeau, co-founder of Komet. “When it comes to complex projects with large files, the classical screen sharing solutions are inefficient. It’s a real headache!”
He adds: “Imagine having to compile shaders on Unreal Engine for the first time on a new computer. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour. That is not viable for an effective collaboration.”

Working on complex projects involving large files (up to 50 Go) and demanding software such as Unreal Engine, Komet needed a powerful solution to simplify remote collaboration.

The company’s fast-paced growth, doubling its workforce in less than nine months, made hardware management expensive and complex, especially for short-term contracts: “When we started recruiting heavily, we realized that managing the hardware for each new employee was a logistical nightmare, especially for short-term or fixed-term contracts. With Shadow Pro, we can equip an employee in just a few clicks, without worrying about hardware management.”

“Being able to deploy a powerful machine with just a few clicks and having harmonized configurations is a real time saver", insists Antoine. "There is no need to worry about logistics. Employees already have a computer at home, even if it's not powerful. With Shadow, they can access a high-performance machine in the cloud.”
Optimizing costs with DAAS
Komet has made significant savings by opting for a Desktop As A Service (DAAS) solution. The initial investment required to equip an employee has been reduced from over €1,800 to less than €300, using refurbished hardware to access Shadow via Linux.
This enables better treasury management while simplifying logistics and reducing the human costs associated with preparing the hardware for each new employee.

Komet has reduced its carbon footprint by using refurbished hardware and relying on cloud computing.
“By using refurbished hardware to access Shadow, we’re considerably reducing our carbon footprint, with a much lower environmental impact. In addition, Shadow PC supports us in our full-remote policy. Our employees can access dedicated Windows sessions on high-performance machines accessible from home. This enables them to achieve a better work-life balance. They can access flexible working hours and organization, and we limit commuting to the maximum extent possible.”
Promoting the circular economy
Komet contributes to the circular economy by retrieving existing hardware to access its virtual offices: “We’re retrieving old equipment that would otherwise have ended up in landfill.”, he adds. “It’s rewarding to know that we’re contributing to a more sustainable economy, while benefiting from the latest technologies thanks to Shadow Pro.”
